Synology will take care of it for you in the next steps. Your new drive will pop up in the drive pool as Not initialised. Please refer to the following table for the maximum single volume size of different Synology NAS models. Synology - Rebuild Volume Steps On your Diskstation manager (DSM) go to Storage Manager>HDD/SSD. However, please note that the maximum single volume size is not directly related to the total capacity available in a storage pool. Only a few models support a maximum single volume size of 200 TB. In general, Synology NAS models that come with a 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (圆4) CPU architecture support a maximum single volume size of 16 TB or 108 TB, respectively. "Maximum single volume size of Synology NAS You can create a second volume though, but I just want to create single volumes for simplicity. It is tied to the CPU architecture unfortunately, so I doubt I will continue using the ones I have.
Synology drive initialized but not volume full#
The Synology has a better OS and density for the price point, but not supporting the full drive size is wasteful. Based on your follow up comments I believe your only options are to change RAID type to RAID 1 (which you listed as a possibility when clicking 'Change RAID type'), create a new volume on the new drive, or delete the current volume and recreate as RAID 0 and include both disks. That seems to be the path I am going since the platform is CPU restricted to certain volume size, but a storage pool can have multiple volumes. If the DS1821+'s don't get 18tb or larger drive support I will just sell them, and buy more Asustor's. I have been buying Asustor's that now support the 18tb WD drives.
Synology drive initialized but not volume update#
Kind of sucks, but I am hopeful they update the firmware to support the larger drives, but I started buying other products that can support the larger drives without issue. Drive requirements: Please make sure the drives that you intend to add to your DSPRODUCTNAME meet the following requirements: RAID or SHR configuration must be created by drives of the same type. Only drives that meet the drive requirements are listed. A Synology Hybrid RAID (SHR) consisting of at least 2 drives Note: The status of the newly-added drive must be Initializedor Not Initialized. Select Add Drive from the drop-down menu. It will initialize the storage and volume, but will cap out at the stated spec storage limit of 108TB. Click the upper-right icon of the storage pool you want to expand. Go to the Advanced Repair Settings section and tick the Enable Auto Repair checkbox. To enable Auto Repair: Go to the Storage page and click the Global Settings button. I have eight WD Gold 18tb drives per DS1821+ (I have four) with maximum memory and the latest firmware, DSM 7.0-41890. After the defective drives have been removed from the drive slots, insert the replacement drives in the same drive slots.
